Understanding Tunisia’s weather can help you choose the perfect time for your trip and pack appropriately.

Tunisia’s Climate Overview

Tunisia enjoys a Mediterranean climate with four distinct seasons:

  • Spring (March–May): Mild temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F). This is an ideal time for sightseeing, with pleasant weather and blooming landscapes.

  • Summer (June–August): Hot and dry, with typical temperatures between 30°C and 40°C (86°F to 104°F). However, during heat waves, temperatures can soar up to 46°C (115°F) or feel like 50°C (122°F), especially inland. Coastal cities benefit from cooler sea breezes, making beaches a popular escape despite the intense heat. Summer is the peak tourist season, with crowded beaches and higher hotel prices.

  • Autumn (September–November): Mild and comfortable, with temperatures from 20°C to 30°C (68°F to 86°F). Fewer tourists and pleasant weather make it a great time to explore.

  • Winter (December–February): Winters are generally mild and warmer compared to over 10 years ago, though heavy rains can occur for several days to a week. This season sees fewer tourists and offers lower hotel prices, except during the Christmas and New Year holidays. It’s an excellent time for travelers seeking a peaceful visit and budget-friendly options.

Best Time to Visit

Spring, autumn, and winter all offer comfortable and rewarding travel experiences in Tunisia. Summer is perfect for seaside lovers but expect bigger crowds and higher hotel rates.

Special Note: Ramadan Period

Ramadan is a holy month observed by most Tunisians, during which many restaurants and cafes are closed or operate on reduced hours during daylight. For visitors, this can limit dining options and some activities. Therefore, Ramadan is generally not the best time to visit Tunisia if you want full access to local food and vibrant social life. If you do plan to travel during Ramadan, it’s wise to prepare accordingly and respect local customs.
